The People Who Carry This Ministry at Home

The work in the mountains is Haitian-led. Back in Arkansas, a small staff and a volunteer Board of Directors keep the promise to every donor: the mission comes first, and the books stay open.

Where This Began

It started with a doctor, a schoolteacher, and one priest’s request.

In 1977, Dr. Gardner Landers and his wife Francis began traveling to Haiti for medical mission trips. On the coast, a Haitian priest named Père Jean-Wilfrid Albert showed them a school full of children with nowhere else to go, and asked Francis to go home and raise the money for seven more. She said yes, and never really stopped.

Five priests and 650 Haitian employees run the schools in the mountains, and none of them answer to an office in the United States. Back in Arkansas, two people keep the lights on. They open the mail, balance the books, and make sure every dollar lands where you sent it.
